Shorten text
Use Shorten text when you want a shorter version of existing prose. It cuts repetition, filler, and wordy phrasing while preserving meaning, evidence, uncertainty, and voice.
Open Quick actions, choose Shorten text, and select Send editorial request. Add guidance about what to keep or where to cut. Select a passage to shorten only that text; otherwise, the Assistant works on the full Article.
Example
Ask, "Suggest a tighter version of the sentence about the river threading through the willows. Keep the silver image and quiet mood."
The result must be shorter than its source. If safe shortening is not possible, the Assistant returns the source unchanged. Review the Proposal before applying it; names, claims, links, code, quotations, and technical terms should remain accurate. For clarity edits without a shortening request, use Improve flow and clarity.
